JAPAN 16 October, 2014. TOTO Ltd. (Headquarters: Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, Japan; President: Madoka Kitamura) has been selected by CDP* for inclusion in the Climate Performance Leadership Index (CPLI) and Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) for 2014, in recognition of its commitment to preventing global warming. This is the first time TOTO has been included in the CPLI, and the third year in succession for the CDLI.
In partnership with institutional investors, CDP sends out questionnaires to approximately 5,000 companies around the world, including 500 major companies in Japan (the “Japan 500”), requesting disclosure regarding subjects such as climate change strategies and greenhouse gas emissions (CO2, etc.) It then compiles climate change reports based on companies’ responses, and publishes the CPLI, listing companies demonstrating an outstanding commitment to alleviating and responding climate change, maintaining transparency, and the CDLI, listing outstanding companies in terms of disclosure.
As part of its efforts to promote environmental initiatives worldwide, in June this year TOTO formulated a Global Environmental Vision, with the aim of making an even greater contribution to the environment from the standpoint of plumbing, as a company whose operations revolve around water. As well as setting out Global Environment Goals within the aforementioned vision, TOTO is working to prevent global warming from various other angles too, including reducing CO2 emissions from use of TOTO products by 5.63 million tons by the company’s 100th anniversary in 2017 (compared to FY1990, through improved performance). It is also committed to disclosing information with transparency. TOTO will continue to promote ESG (environmental, social and governance) activities in the future, as it continues to evolve as a company.
